SAYING it with flowers is the norm for Crowland in Bloom but now they are working hard to create a leafier town by planting trees.
At the weekend they planted the first of a 420-strong batch of healthy young saplings gifted by the Royal Horticultural Society and the Woodland Trust.
Ros Knight, one of the organisers, said: “Crowland in Bloom applied for a selection of species for year-round colour – including field maple, hawthorn, hazel, birch, rowan, cherry and dogwood.”
Some 15 people, including members of Crowland in Bloom, Crowland Wildlife and the Women’s Institute, planted the first trees on land at the junction of the old A1073 and Peterborough Road. More sites have been nominated by the parish council.
