A NEW embankment on the troubled Spalding to Peterborough road has now been built, and highways bosses say the route is still on course for an October opening.
A crack was discovered under the embankment leading up to Car Dyke Bridge, between Crowland and Peterborough, meaning traffic is still having to use the old A1073 through Eye Green more than a year after the northern half opened to motorists last August.
Senior Project Leader Lee Rowley said: “We have monitoring equipment to measure movement in the embankment, the underlying ground and the concrete piles we have installed. This equipment is indicating that there are no problems.”
Lincolnshire County Council, which has led the £80m project, says that the work is going to plan and, with good weather, the road should still open in October.
