THE A16 finally opened south of Crowland on Sunday, completing the £80million new link from Spalding to Peterborough.
The final stretch was delayed after a crack was discovered under the new embankment leading up to Car Dyke Bridge, with the Spalding to Crowland part opening last August.
Crowland parish councillor Reg Boot said: “I am delighted that it is open at last.
“I did have a trip down on Sunday morning. My first impression is that is is good. I was a little bit surprised when I got to ‘Mountain Car Dyke’ – it must be the highest point on the A16 between East Keal and Peterborough and was larger than I thought.
“Hopefully this will help solve the most important problems we’ve had.”
