UPDATE FRIDAY 3.30PM: A man who died when driving on the A16 at Crowland has been named today.

Dudley Leonard Knipe of Moulton Chapel was driving near the junction of James Road and Postland Road just after 2pm on Monday when it is thought he fell ill at the wheel of his car which then left the road and ended up in a field.

A South Lincolnshire Coroner’s Office spokesman confirmed that enquiries were still ongoing to establish a “definitive cause of death.”

MONDAY 4.15PM: A man has died after the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a field off the A16 at Crowland today.

Police believe the man may have fallen ill while driving when the car ran off the road just after 2pm and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened near the B1166 Postland Road and there were no other passengers in the car, with police also believing that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The A16 is currently closed between Postland Road and the B1040 James Road.

MONDAY 3.30PM: A vehicle has crashed on the A16 at Crowland causing the road to be closed while emergency services attend the scene.

It happened just after 3pm and involved a car, with police closing the road in both directions between the B1040 James Road and B1166 Postland Road.

There is no news yet of any injuries but a Lincolnshire Police spokeswoman confirmed that the accident was thought to be serious.
