COUNTY highways officers say they will rely on the “trust” of drivers to help police the closure of the A151 which starts on Saturday.

Lincolnshire County Council says that between Saturday and Sunday, March 20, when the road is due to re-open, “gatemen” will be on hand at the junctions to stop vehicles who do not need access from passing through.

A council spokesman said: “The gatemen will police this as well as they can but an element of trust is also needed.

“Large HGVs and other such vehicles which are not obviously going to Whaplode will be asked to turn round.”

The spokesman confirmed that, while the road is closed, highways officers will take the opportunity to carry out patchworks to the road, which has suffered from problems with potholes.
