TRACEY Vowels may not be involved in the real Olympic torch relay, but she was number 97 torch bearer in the practice run held on Friday.
Tracey, who runs The Fitness Company in Spring Gardens, Spalding, was initially nominated to carry the torch for the Olympics for Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, but wasn’t successful.
However, she was thrilled with the practice run held on one of the trickier stretches of the route, between Leicester and Peterborough.
“It was absolutely fantastic,” she said. “Lots of people were out watching and cheering on the streets and I think some of them probably thought it was the real thing. This was more about logistics and seeing how it all went, although it was very much as it will be on the day.”
Eighty people took part in the rehearsal, each running or walking 350 yards before performing the “torch kiss” with the next person on the route, and Tracey was one of 12 people bearing the torch through Peterborough.
