RESIDENTS in Long Sutton are being invited to choose the site of a new cemetery now, rather than wait for the current one to run out of plots.
Cinder Ash cemetery was expected to run out of plots 18 months ago and only has some left because residents have not been reserving more than one for their family.
Town clerk Karen Treacher said there were three proposed sites – Seagate Road allotments, John Swains Way allotments and Cinder Ash Park. Cost of the new cemetery would come out of parish funds.
Ms Treacher said: “The parish will have a new cemetery if the parishioners wish to have one.
“The plots will run out and the council is acting now in order to have an established cemetery ready, rather than a rush as Sutton Bridge currently has. It can take years to go through the process and so the council is rightly looking forward.”
Anyone wishing to have their say can attend the annual parish meeting at the Baptist Church on Thursday, April 4, at 7pm.
