A spokesperson for the Environment Agency told Spalding Today: “Our enforcement team patrolling near Spalding town centre on Tuesday found three anglers fishing without a licence – they now face prosecution.

“People who don’t buy a licence are not only cheating other anglers and the future of the sport but running the risk of criminal conviction and a fine.

“There is no excuse – it costs just £27 for a whole year.

“If you suspect illegal fishing, please report it to our hotline so we can investigate – call 0800 80 70 60.”
