RESIDENTS in Deeping St James are being encouraged to go for gold and buy their plants this weekend to prepare for the village’s entry in the East Midlands In Bloom competition.
A plant sale is being held at Priory Church Hall on Saturday from 9.30am to noon.
Deeping St James is being entered in the Small Towns section of the competition.
Clerk to the parish council Steve Ashby said: “This is the third time we have entered and we won silver for the past two years, so this year we are going for gold.”
To encourage residents, a plant and unusual container competition is being held, which will be judged by members of the public between June 30 and July 13.
Gardeners have been asked to find weird and wacky ways of showing off their floral displays.
This year’s In Bloom entry is also being strengthened by planting at the bases of road signs around the village.
Residents are being invited to adopt a road sign to make the village look welcoming.
Anyone who would like to adopt a road sign or enter the unusual container competition can contact the parish council for an application by calling 01778 343266 or emailing email@example.com
