THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: By Ricki Kendall, Deacon at Spalding Baptist Church
As a fan of the Pixar Animation films (Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc are classics in any genre), I am very much looking forward to the release of their new film, Inside Out, this summer. Inside Out concerns Riley, an 11-year-old girl, who has to move home thousands of miles away. However, the story is told from the perspective of her emotions and how they struggle to adapt to the changes.
We can all relate to the way our emotions change as a result of differing situations and circumstances. Sometimes they can swing wildly from one extreme to another for no apparent reason! Part of being human is to experience joy, sadness, anger, disgust and fear in response to the world around us.
This is why the Christian view of God as the unchanging one is so important. No matter what is happening in our lives we can always turn to the everlasting Lord. He gives us stability in the hard times and rejoices with us in our triumphs. This is why the Christian holds onto the truth of Hebrews 13:8; ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever’. He is our comfort, rock and salvation.
