Taste of fame lands outgoing chef panto role

Have your say

SPALDING chef Karl ‘Sergi’ Sergison has landed a plum role in this year’s panto at the South Holland Centre after briefly tasting TV stardom in BBC reality show Turn Back Time – The High Street.

The six-part TV series ran on BBC1 last year and Karl says Polka Dot Pantomimes approached him to see if he would take part in Aladdin.

Karl, who will appear as Emperor of China, said: “I am not exactly shy, am I?

“I have always hankered at doing something like that just for the craic.

“I learned quite a lot from last summer about being on TV and about how to woo the cameras. There won’t be cameras there but there will be an audience to woo.”

Karl says he hasn’t been on stage since he was at school but is looking forward to the show, which runs from December 7 to January 2.

Karl and wife Debbie, run Sergi’s Good Food Store, in Francis Street, Spalding, and have a cookery school next door. Karl says he will still go to work between shows.

Polka Dot regular Phil Norton is also starring in the panto and will appear as Wishee Washee.

There’s a chance for young people to get involved as Polka Dot are looking for 20 to 30 young people aged between eight and 21 to form three all-singing, all-dancing choruses.

Each chorus line will take turns to appear in the panto.

Auditions for chorus roles will be held at the academy in Cradge Bank, Spalding, from 2pm-4.30pm on Sunday, September 18.
