Spalding Grammar School is venue for charity clothes swap fundraiser
A charity clothes swap could be the perfect way to update your look while getting rid of unwanted clothes.
The Swishing Clothes Swap Party, organised by Spalding and Holbeach Macmillan Cancer Support, is set to be held at Spalding Grammar School on Saturday, October 5, and all are invited to get involved.
People will be able to drop off their unwanted clothes, shoes, accessories or jewellery in exchange for tokens which can be used to choose a second hand item someone else has brought in.
Rebecca Mills, who is on the organising committee for the event, said: “This is something that we have never done before, I thought it was much more interesting than your average fundraiser.
“It’s a good way of updating your wardrobe for free, and have some coffee and cake too.”
The swap party will raise funds for Spalding and Holbeach Macmillan Cancer Support and entry is £5 at the door.
It's come at a relevant time to think about swapping your old clothes and other wardrobe items as it's currently Second Hand September.
That campaign, run by charity Oxfam,is also aiming to highlight the environmental benefits of upcycling old clothes, as every week 11 million items of clothing end up in landfill.
It's said that the throwaway fashion culture is putting increasing pressure on the planet’s resources, and Second Hand September is a pledge many have taken to buy no new clothes for 30 days.
People can drop off their swap items at the Swishing Clothes Swap Party by taking them to the Grammar School on October 5, between 9-10am. Alternatively, they can drop off their items at Strands Hair Salon in Clover Way, Spalding, between Monday, September 30, and Friday, October 4.
The swap party is then open from 11am-2pm at the school in the Assembly Hall via the Priory Road entrance.
Those taking part in the charity swap need to bring at least three items, but there is no limit to the number of items you can bring.
All the belongings should be of good, clean condition; clothes should be on a hanger, accessories and jewellery in a clear plastic bag and shoes in a box or bag.
Any items left over at the end of the event will be up for sale (from 2-2.30pm).
