Village youngsters could be a step closer to having their own play area after years of waiting.

Moulton Parish Council agreed an early proposal for the play area on Moulton Park during a meeting on Tuesday - although the plans could be subject to change.

The parish has been given a one-acre section of the field on a peppercorn rent for at least 50 years by owners South Holland District Council.

Equipment which could be appearing on the park - the proposal could be subject to change - includes a cableway, carousel, springers, swings, agility trail and sea saw along with a ‘wizard’s hideaway’.

Now the proposal has been formally agreed by the parish council, it will be passed to the district council which is hoped to submit a planning application.

Speaking ahead of the discussions on the plan parish council chairman Andrew Woolf said that the plans looked ‘impressive’.

He said: “Hopefully we can get to the point where we going to move forward to the next stage.”

There has been some back and forth debate between the district and the parish on the progress of the play area plans in the past.

District ward member and public protection portfolio holder Coun Anthony Casson opened the public forum by expressing his disappointment at the lack of headway made on the project.

Coun Casson said: “This acre was offered last July and we have been walking around the houses.

“The design of the play equipment and everything like that we have done it. We directed you to Influence (the architect). We are doing it all - what is the parish doing? I don’t think a parish council in Lincolnshire had such a golden opportunity.”

Coun Woolf stated that the Influence had drawn up the plans for the parish council and had to be agreed by members.

He went onto say: “There is a long list of stuff we had to do. One was a public survey which we carried out at the beginning of the year. We have not kept any secrets, we have been open and transparent - it’s not been the same with the district council.”

Coun Byron Hahn repeated his opposition that the parish should fund a car park, which was part of the criteria for the land.

Coun Lawrence Wakefield said Moulton has been waiting six years for a play area.

He said: “The district council dug their heels in, I don’t know what was wrong and it wasted time. It could have been done and dusted with common sense.”

The council supported the proposal and it will be discussed by the district’s assets meeting.
