St James Church in Moulton Chapel opened its doors to local primary schools for a ‘Poetry Party’.

Five schools took part, with each selecting pupils to write and perform poems for this special day.

The schools taking part were Moulton Chapel, Tydd St Mary, Holbeach Primary Acadeny, Fleet Wood Lane and Holbeach Bank.

The party was the idea of Benjamin Zephaniah who opened the event by reading four of his own poems.

He then invited the children to the stage to perform their own creations.

One by one the pupils took to the stage, reading poems on many subjects including volcanoes, waterfalls, war, animals, and outer space.

Benjamin said: “The idea of the event was to create a party atmosphere using poetry.

“It was a great opportunity for the children to show their creativity, and also a chance for them to see this wonderful and unique church that we are so proud of.”
