A CHARITY disco in Spalding raised £900 for Cancer Research – and might now become a regular fundraising fixture.

Shaun Fox (42), from Spalding, entertained a packed British Sugar Sports and Social Club with the sounds of Northern Soul and Tamla Motown and the event well exceeded his expectations, almost doubling his £500 target.

Shaun, who was assisted by Joe, Tracy, Phoebe and Michael Darley, said he was moved to back the cause after losing three family members in the last eight years to cancer.

He said: “The event was an absolute success, everybody had a great time and I couldn’t believe quite how well it went.

“I thought we might get £500 but I never knew it would escalate like it did.”

The 150-plus crowd included guests from Wisbech, Boston and Skegness as well as locals – and Shaun feels the strength of the cause helped to attract big numbers to the West Marsh Road venue.

Shaun hopes to make the night an annual fixture and is now looking into putting on another disco in the summer.
