Spalding-area veterans gather at special event to mark Jubilee
Veterans from our district joined together for a special breakfast to mark the Queen's Jubilee.
On Friday, June 3, more than 40 people, including several district councillors, gathered at the town's Woodlands Hotel for the event.
The veterans were mainly drawn from the Spalding Branch of the Royal Anglian & Royal Lincolnshire Regimental Association and from the Spalding Royal and Merchant Navy Associations.
The informal event was interspersed with a few words from Coun Paul Redgate, chairman of South Holland District Council, and Coun Andrew Woolf, the district council's vice chairman, who opened with a prayer.
Speaking after the event, Coun Redgate said ‘It was a pleasure to attend and support this event.
"Having seen this grow over the months it shows the importance of getting together. I look forward to supporting these in the future and attending them when I can."
Organiser Jan Whitbourn, who presented everyone in attendance with a commemorative Jubilee coin, added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those present for their years of service and to recognise the support the military associations in Spalding receive from their local council."
The next veterans' breakfast event will take place in July. If you would like to attend email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07779895388.
