This newspaper reported “exceptional” interest in the 1916 marriage at Spalding Parish Church of Lieut Charles Lewis Harvey, eldest surviving son of Mr and Mrs H H Harvey, of ‘Willesby’, Spalding, and Kathleen Mary Taprell Gleed, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Gleed, of ‘West Elloe’, Spalding.

The photograph above, taken by Mr A S Gyde of Spalding, shows part of the “largest marriage assembly known for a quarter of a century” for the union of “two well-known families”.

Charles, who before the war worked as a solicitor and was deputy to his father as clerk to Spalding Urban Council, was serving with the 2/4th Lincolns and was expected to be drafted to the front within a few weeks.
