Through the Eyes of a Therapist by Ian Best is packed full of easy-to-understand action points, techniques and methods that can be applied to everyday life.
Ian says it is intentionally unscientific, but offers helpful advice in ten reasonably short chapters. At the end of each chapter there are simple action points for people to follow.
One chapter contains a tool box of useful skills to help people deal with the obstacles of life, and discusses subjects such as awareness, over-thinking and self-imposed expectations.
One thing that Ian highlights is the rule book – the (parent’s-teacher’s) imposed drive to do better, with the result that some of us feel things must always be perfect.
He says: “Throw away the rule book or start to whittle it down a bit.”
Ian has also given the reader an insight into what it’s like to be a therapist and what happens during treatment.
The book sells for £7.99 from Bookmark in Spalding and from online book sellers. ISBN: 9781500596552.
