Organisers of a long-running Spalding ball fear they may have to cancel this year’s event if more people don’t support it.
Spalding Rugby Club’s Great Gatsby themed event is due to take place on Saturday, May 6, but so far only a few of the 26 tables available have been sold.
As well as raising funds for the club, 2017’s ball is also fundraising for the charity Rugby For Heroes.
Entertainment on the night is set to include music by vintage retro band The Belles and a disco.
“The rugby club balls have been going a very long time,” said a spokesman for the organising committee. “But it’s really disappointing that this close to the event we’ve only sold four tables.
“A lot of people have said they are interested and want to come, but they haven’t returned their booking forms or paid yet.
“It’s a real shame – we don’t want to cancel. A lot of effort has gone into organising this and it’s usually a fantastic night.
“So many people said after last year’s event what a good time they had and they wanted to come again next year.”
Anyone interested in attending the ball at Springfields Exhibition Centre, Spalding, has until March 18 to book and pay for a table.
Tables seat 10 or 12 and tickets are £50 per person. The ball starts at 7pm with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and entertainment and finishes at 2am.
