Spalding Round Table has given a £9,500 Vauxhall Vivaro minibus to The Pennygate Foundation to help its community work.
Table ways and means officer Jason Parnell said the foundation originally made a small request – for around £3,000 – but his organisation decided the charity needed something better and, after discussion, opted for the Vivaro which seats nine.
He said: “I think Pennygate Foundation do a fantastic job, they do something that’s good for the community and it was a privilege for us guys to give something back to the community.”
Pennygate Foundation was set up by Brenda Wickham with Dr Azeema Nathu to help all kinds of people with all kinds of difficulties.
Foundation centre users may be elderly and not eating well at home, lonely, bereaved or in need of help and advice.
Services offered at the charity’s premises include a restaurant, alternative therapies and a mother and toddler group.
Mr Parnell said volunteers have been using their own cars to support the charity’s work, bringing people to and from the centre, and the Vivaro will make a big difference. Tablers raised the bulk of the cash from a boxing event earlier this year.
