A one-mile unicycle ride could take Will Newing all the way to Kenya.
Will (21), who lives in Spalding, is doing the sponsored unicycle ride to raise money towards a £800 fundraising target to join the development charity Balloon Ventures for three months in January.
He will taking part in a project that will tackle some of the problems facing the local community.
He is taking part through International Citizen Service (ICS) which allows young people aged 18-25 to contribute to long-term development projects in countries around the world. The scheme gives young people the chance to develop personally while taking part in projects that are of genuine value to communities.
Teaming up with Kenyan volunteers, Will says he will be helping entrepreneurs and small businesses to develop and become successful, to create jobs – and tackle poverty.
Will says: After three months when I come back to England I plan on doing talks about my experience and other activities in the local community to inspire young people to make positive change, either to their own lives or in the developing world.”
Will needs to raise £800 to join the project and hopes to raise a big chunk of it through the sponsored ride – possibly in fancy dress.
He says: “I’m really excited to get out there. I learnt to ride the unicycle nearly six years ago and haven’t ridden it since. It has been challenging getting to grips with it again and I’m hoping everyone will give generously as a result of my effort!”
To sponsor Will go to www.justgiving.com/Will-Newing or text BVBV90 and the amount to 70070.
