David Stanbridge felt nervous about hosting his fellow contestants at Cley Hall Hotel.

He was “quietly confident” the hotel was the best of the bunch, but by this time they had plenty of experience of the “guest from hell”.

True to form, the hotelier from Devon complained about her meal at the Crystal Inn, moaned about breakfast, hunted down a fleck of dust in her room, gave bad scores and elected to pay just £80 – instead of the room rate of £110.

At the ‘big reveal’, David and Nikki were naturally “overjoyed and amazed”.

The reaction from the lady from Devon? “She marched out the room, it was terrible,” says David. “The crew said they had never seen a reaction like that before.

“We are really pleased. It recognises all the hard work the staff put in.”
