Spalding High School pupil Mathilde Tranter (17) attended a women’s equality conference alongside Hollywood stars.

The student, who is a Young Leader at 1st Leverington Rainbows, was at the Women in the World event as part of a group of young Girlguiding campaigners and activists.

Suffragette actors Meryl Streep and Cary Mulligan, Syrian refugee and activist Mervat Alsman, Home Secretary Theresa May and SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon all featured at the gamechanging event to mark the UN-declared International Day of the Girl.

Mathilde met Mhairi Black, the youngest MP ever to be elected, and singer/songwriter and social media campaigner Nina Nesbitt, who shared her story and thoughts on how social media is putting pressure on girls and young women.

She was also inspired by a mentoring session with former Junior Minister for Equalities Jo Swinson and Editorial Intelligence founder Julia Hobsbawm.
