A girl of 12 from Spalding High School is in a race against time to raise £2,500 to compete with her team in the World Hip-Hop Championships.

Poppy Gill, who appeared in last year’s final of Britain’s Got Talent, is part of a team called Entity that has qualified to represent England in Las Vegas in August.

She’s raised £700 so far, enough for the deposit, but is now looking for donations or sponsorship to make her dream come true.

“The funds will be needed before I leave, however preferably as soon as possible because flights and hotels have to be booked beforehand,” said Poppy. “It would mean a lot to me if people could help because entering these competitions and going to America have always been dreams of mine and I would love to be able to compete at this level.”

Poppy’s mum, Lisa, said her daughter’s team has also qualified to represent England in a World of Dance competition in Los Angeles in August – but members have decided to focus on the world championships in Vegas,

Lisa said: “She’s been so busy fundraising, doing car boot sales and running errands while also keeping up with her school work.

“I am really proud of her efforts to raise the money she needs.”

She said Poppy has savings of £500 and may well have to put that into the Vegas fund.

Poppy takes her dancing seriously and trains in East London three times a week.

Poppy danced her way to glory on Britain’s Got Talent in a team called Entity Allstars.

The team was placed 11th out of 12 acts but given excellent comments from the judges, including Simon Cowell who said: “That has to be a winning team.”

Fellow judge David Walliams said: “We’ve never seen breakdancing gladiators on Britain’s Got Talent before.”

Poppy was also a finalist on Sky 1’s Got to Dance with her then team, Unity Academy.

Globetrotting Poppy has also visited world and European championships in countries including Italy, Germany and Slovenia.

Poppy has a brother Jonah (13) who attends Spalding Grammar School and a little sister, Willow (9), who attends Leverington Primary School.
