Staff at a Spalding hairdressers turned their shop window pink to celebrate the arrival of a new baby, Matilda Rose.

The baby girl was a surprise to parents, senior stylist Sophie Small and partner Rob Wallace, when she came into this world yesterday (Thursday).

Sophie hadn’t wanted to know the gender of her baby until she was born ... and that kept her colleagues guessing on whether to splash out on pink or blue balloons for their window display.

Balloons declaring “it’s a girl” were placed in the window, along with an “it’s a girl” banner and a sea of pink balloons.

There was also a notice saying: “Congratulations to Sophie and Rob on the birth of Matilda Rose 7lb 2oz Thursday 3rd March.”

Steffens often use the shop window to announce good news.

Administrator Jackie Ellison said: “All of Sophie’s clients have been asking about the baby so we thought if we put it in the window they could see when they walk by.”
