A Spalding chip shop is turning Easter into a time of giving by encouraging customers to dig deep for charity.
Staff at Westlode Fisheries in Westlode Street are marking their 17th month of trading with a unique offer to donate ten per cent of its takings on Good Friday and Easter Saturday to a charity in Spalding.
It is an extension of the chip shop’s “good turn” last December when it opened for six hours on Christmas Eve and raised £155 for the Pennygate Foundation which helps the elderly, homeless, families in need and people with mental illnesses.
Fardous Ali, of Westlode Fisheries, said: “My family likes doing charity work and because we were very busy last Easter, we thought it would be a good idea to do something that can benefit another local charity like Pennygate Foundation.
“We’re not sure which charity to help yet, although we have a few ideas, so we would welcome ideas from our customers.
“When we did the same thing at Christmas, everyone thought it was a brilliant idea and people came into the shop to congratulate us on what we were doing for the local community.

“But we’ll see how much we make over Easter and then we’ll be quicker in deciding which local charity we’ll be helping.”
