We hear about the decline of reading, but more people than ever before are sharing their love of the written word during World Book Night.
The event falls this year next Thursday, April 23, when Bookmark in The Crescent in Spalding will be taking part in the nationwide celebration of reading and books. The shop’s Samantha Buckley (above) said: “Volunteer book givers nationally get given hundreds of thousands of books by publishers to hand out in the community to share their love of reading with people who don’t normally read. “In addition, throughout the year we get given pre-publication books from publishers so we can read them before the book comes out and tell customers how fabulous they are. We accumulate them through the year and give them away on World Book Night. People can come along and have a glass of wine or juice and browse through hundreds of proof copies and take one home. “We know it’s catching on because more of our customers have volunteered to be book givers.” To pick up a free book go along to Bookmark between 6pm and 8pm.
