Book lovers can write a happy ending for a popular Spalding shop as Bookmark hopes to be named the best in its field.

The store in The Crescent is already one of four eastern region finalists in The Bookseller’s search for the Independent Bookshop of the Year.

If you visit Bookmark’s website – at www.bookmarkspalding.co.uk – there’s a chance for you to say why you love the shop, and hopefully take the store to the next exciting chapter, a place in the national list of contenders.

Bookmark manager Samantha Buckley said: “We have been Independent Bookshop of the Year before, in 2001, and it would be fantastic if we managed to get anywhere near that.”

Samantha says the judges are looking for standards of excellence within the industry.

Bookmark is a hub for a variety of societies and groups who meet there, and has a wonderful coffee shop as well as a vast array of books.

The shop also hosts visiting authors and has seen a string of celebrities come through its doors over the years.

Samantha and the staff are all passionate readers – Samantha reads at least two books a week – and all of that knowledge comes to the fore when they make recommendations to customers.

Samantha says: “We are always happy to talk to people about books.”

She says customers have so far given wonderful support by sharing news of Bookmark’s place in the regional final and many have left fantastic comments, which will be seen by the judges.
