Drummers from Spalding Marching Ambassadors took part in Danny Boyle’s barmy but brilliant opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Three generations of one family – Jim, Cathrine and Tristan Bright – and fellow members Carol Felts and Annabel Newell were in the industrial revolution scenes – and then drummed and ushered in the athletes from around the world.

Cathrine (45) said yesterday: “I am still on a high – it was more than I thought it would be.”

The five had pictures taken next to the Olympic flame, got back to their hotel by 3am and watched back some of the previous night’s highlights.

Tomorrow they return to London to start rehearsals for the closing ceremony.
