Big day as South Holland's Jan and Chris meet The Red Arrows

A meeting with The Red Arrows and watching the 'kings of the sky' was a huge thrill for two ambassadors with an education partnership.

Jan Whitbourn, a South Holland district councillor, and Chris Carter were at RAF Scampton on Wednesday as children from across Lincolnshire and Rutland took part in a robotics challenge.

Scampton is the base for The Red Arrows and the pilots were only too happy to put on an aerobatics display for the children and adults.

Jan said: "It was just amazing - it was just like they were at an air display and they did it all for us."

Once the planes touched down there was a chance to meet the pilots who have become household names thanks to a Channel 5 TV series.

"They came and talked to the children," said Jan. "It was so unexpected."

Nine schools from Lincolnshire and Rutland took part in the challenge with about ten pupils representing each school.
