Holbeach St Johns: Wings & Wheels drew the crowds to Fenland airfield

By Spalding Today Columnist

While a strong, gusty wind, with predicted rain, prevented many aircraft from flying in to Fenland airfield this weekend, it did not stop more earth-bound visitors from gathering at the Holbeach St John’s airfield for its annual Wings & Wheels open day on Sunday.

More than 1,000 visitors were able to wander around the 50 trade stands and marvel at the collection of superbly turned-out vintage and classic motor cars, motorcycles and light aeroplanes.

Entertainment was provided by the Spalding Ukulele Band and, with the clubhouse restaurant doing a roaring trade, plus a variety of food stalls in the hangar and outside, the event catered for every taste.
