All the latest news from the South Holland Centre
A very Happy New Year from the South Holland Centre!
And if this is your year to start something new, may we point you in the direction of the ‘Health and Wellbeing’ activities taking place at the Centre to help you on your way: from learning a new language, crafting, singing or meditation classes!
Whether you are going to France this year or just want to take on a new challenge, come along to Pierrette Humphreys’ French for Beginners classes for adults which continue tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at 7pm. Please call Pierrette on 07947789578 to book your place.
If you are hoping to nurture a calm and peaceful mind, teacher Gen Nyingpo (from Peterborough’s Drolma Buddhist Centre) is offering Meditation Classes at the Centre on three consecutive Thursdays – starting January 15 at 7.30pm. The cost per class is £5 per person. Booking is not required and you can drop in to any session.
Free monthly Get Crafty sessions are on offer for adults this spring courtesy of Live and Learn. Starting off with an ‘Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting’ on Friday, January 30 from 10am to 12.30pm. Please call Live and Learn on 01780722148 to reserve your place.
Adults can also get in touch with their creative side at the Felting Club led by artisan felter Eve Marshall. Anyone coming to the first session on Tuesday, January 27 will have a go at making ‘wet felted slippers’ – we’re sure no-one else will have a pair quite like them!
The day runs from 9.30am to 3.30pm and costs £25. Bookings are being taken at the Centre’s box office now. Please see our website for further monthly sessions.
Singing has long been cited as beneficial for body and soul and there is still time to join a local vocal group: adults can sing in a mix of styles with Voices Unplugged from this Saturday at 2.30pm (book at our box office, although most sessions take place at Spalding Methodist Hall); while eight to 18-year-olds have the chance to join Liz Lenten’s funky Vibe Youth Choir which starts here on Thursday, January 22 at 5.30pm (book direct with Liz 01775841750).
Other groups for young people include: Neon Youth Theatre, a refreshing youth theatre group for 11 to 25s where participants create productions from their own ideas; and the Centre’s forward thinking young producer/programming group Youth Takeover – all 14 to 25s are invited to come and share ideas here at the Centre on Tuesdays at 4pm, starting back on January 13.
And if all that isn’t quite enough, don’t forget a leisure walking group departs from the Centre most Mondays from 10.45am; and James Harrington’s Line Dancing sessions kick-off in our function hall most Monday evenings. So with plenty to choose from, may we wish you a very ‘Happy and Healthy 2015’.
