Smoking-free zones to go ahead in South Holland

Play areas, school and nursry entrances are soon to become smoking-free areas under a new voluntary scheme across South Holland.

Signs designed by pre-school, primary and secondary school children will go up from the end of March 2016 urging people not to smoke in areas where children are present.

The scheme was unanimously backed at a South Holland District Council meeting on Wednesday when it was revealed that a £15,500 budget would pay for it.

Deputy council leader Nick Worth said: “We’re proposing to implement the scheme in two phases, with play areas coming first, followed by school entrances and nurseries.”
