TEN jubilant employees of Bakkavor Pizza, Holbeach St Marks, who are employed by Epton employment services, Boston, were presented with certificates on August 18, for English for Speakers of Other Languages, gaining the City & Guilds 3792 Adult Literacy Entry Level Award.

Kevin Smith, of Bakkavor Pizza, who presented the certificates to the employees said - “It’s an excellent achievement and demonstrates their personal commitment to learning English.

“The company encourages their employees to improve their communication skills which help them to integrate into the community.”

The employees were taught English by Andy Gorton, an English language tutor from the University of Lincoln’s Holbeach Campus, for two hours a week for 20 weeks.

Using materials from the factory environment in which they work, Andy taught them the English they would need to use at work, as well as for living in their communities.

Rachel Bowser, the Skills for Life Co-Ordinator said - “The award is a nationally recognised certificate that the students have worked really hard to improve their English, which is never an easy task.

“The University of Lincoln welcomed the opportunity to work in partnership with the company to help their employees improve their English language skills.”
