'Sinking' road in Spalding to be repaired this August

Repairs to a road where motorists have reported a ‘sinking’ section are set to take place this month - says the county council.

We recently reported, on Spalding Today, people’s calls for action to fix a number of uneven road surfaces and potholes in the area.

Following our article, more readers commented on our social media page that they had concerns over other roads, including Park Road in Spalding.

One reader posted: “We complained months ago about the state of our pavements; still waiting for a response from LCC (Lincolnshire County Council). The ‘new’ idea that we should all get out and walk to beat obesity needs to be accompanied by safe pavements to walk on, otherwise how many of us are going to end up in hospital after falling on our unsafe pavements?”

Another reader, commenting on reports of potholes and repairs needed in the district, said: “Park Road’s a lot worse. The road is sinking, not getting a look in at resurfacing. I’m hoping it collapses soon, then they will have to sort it out.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said on Thursday (July 30) that work was taking place to repair kerbs in Park Road (from July 27-31). He added that works are scheduled for August 24-28 to ‘excavate, repair and resurface the road under a full road closure with diversion route in place.’

“We’ve been out resurfacing footpaths for the past three months right across the county,” the spokesman explained.

“The schedule of works is published on our website so you can see where we’re going and where we have been. Due to the nature of the works they’re carried out in the springtime due to the temperatures needed to ensure the effective application of the new surface.”

We also reported in last week’s paper that district and county councillor Angela Newton has been calling for repairs to fix a ‘significant dip’ in the road in Halmergate, Spalding, since February.

Anglian Water, which carried out works in the road prior to the dip being reported, told us that they are investigating to try to find out the cause of the issue.

They were doing works in another section of Halmergate last week for an unrelated issue to replace a manhole cover and chamber that was unstable. Road diversions were set up while this took place.
