South Holland District Council agrees deal to buy 18 new houses located in three villages from Ashwood Homes, making six available under shared ownership terms
The challenge of providing new housing in South Holland has been eased after an agreement to buy 18 homes from a Spalding developer.
South Holland District Council has reached a deal with Ashwood Homes to buy a range of one, two and three-bedroom homes located in Cowbit, Donington and Moulton.
Six of the homes across the three sites are being made available under the council’s shared ownership scheme where people unable to afford a full mortgage can buy a share of the property for between 25 per cent and 75 per cent of its value, paying rent on the rest.
Housebuyers then have the option of increasing their share over time, eventually arriving at full ownership.
Coun Colin Johnson, the district council's portfolio holder for housing development, said: "It is great news that South Holland District Council is continuing to invest throughout the district and these new homes will add to our existing developments, providing excellent, well-equipped places for our residents to live.
"High quality and desirable housing, built with the use of local contractors and developers, is invaluable to supporting the growth of South Holland’s infrastructure and hugely benefiting to the economy of the area.
"It is great that through this, and our work through Welland Homes, we are expanding housing provision for residents across the whole district."
The new homes are a sign of the council’s ambition to support and work with businesses in South Holland, adding to other developments already under way on behalf of the council which included 34 new affordable homes off Small Drove, Weston, that will also offer shared ownership opportunities.
