The highlight of the year for elderly people in Quadring is the annual senior citizens’ party so St Margaret’s Church Hall was the place to be on Friday.

More than 100 over-65s enjoyed a meal provided by Tulipland Butchers, Donington, and performances by Quadring song and dance group and Spalding Ukelele Orchestra.

There was also the cutting of a celebration cake by Quadring’s oldest villagers Laurence Crosby (92) and Elizabeth Saullier (94) surrounded by organisers of the party, now in its 66th year.

Michael Featherstone, a member of the organising committee, said: “Originally it was a New Year’s Party but three or four years ago, we had really bad weather in Quadring so we moved it to March.

“People seemed to enjoy it and so we’ve kept it there ever since.

“There’s always a good atmosphere when people who have been in the village all their lives meet the newer ones and they seem to get on very well.”
