Donington has a statue to Matthew Flinders in the Market Place as well as the memorial in the church.
This consists of a stained glass window, a portrait, a bust and pieces of memorabilia, in addition to the exhibition put together by Donington resident Alan James, who once taught at the Thomas Cowley School.
As a result, Mr James says the town receives a number of Australian visitors each year.
Margaret Kenworthy, manager of the Ruby Hunt Centre, says the town has also hosted the Matthew Flinders Memorial luncheon for the past three years.
Attended by British and Australian dignitaries as well as representatives of local organisations, the lunch at the Ruby Hunt Centre follows a church service.
It is hoped there might be a special celebration in Donington to mark the bicentenary of his death next year.
