Gosberton children go viral with group dance

School children enjoyed one final activity together before closures came into effect, and in doing so have become an online hit!

The video of pupils dancing to Dance With Me Tonight, a chart topper by Olly Murs, has been viewed over 12,500 times.

The collaborative effort by pupils at Gosberton Academy was an idea thought up by Brittany Kidd who teaches the Reception and Year 1 children.

Miss Kidd spotted a post on social media asking groups to create videos to be featured in the closing performance of ITV television show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and decided it would be a fun activity for the children.

On the last day of term, teachers worked together to produce small group dances before the grand finale which saw the whole school dancing to the song in the hall, all of which was filmed and sent off to Ant and Dec.

Head of academy Tom Baxter said: “It was a great way of having some fun and allowing the children the opportunity to relax during their last few hours at school.”

Unfortunately, the school's dance was not selected to be shown on television, but it has received a lot of attention on social media, while helping to raise smiles at the school.

Mr Baxter said: “The dance was something to distract everyone from these challenging times, and the children left the school with huge smiles.”

The school is currently open to children whose parents are key workers or those who are considered vulnerable, with learning packs given to those studying at home.

Mr Baxter added: “We want the children to engage with their home learning but, most of all, it is important that everybody adheres to the guidelines and stays safe.”
