Saracen's Head motorbike enthusiast to ride from John O'Groats to Land's End for Macmillan Cancer Support and Holbeach Hospital
A motobike enthusiast from Saracen’s Head is to set off on a 15-hour, 840-mile motorbike ride across Britain in May.
Dad-of-one Kev Howard (46) will be riding his 1,250cc motorbike from John O’Groats to Land’s End before the Spring Bank Holiday weekend to raise money for two charities, both with family connections.
One of the charities is Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of Kev’s dad Bob Howard who died of cancer at the age of 59.
Kev’s other chosen charity is Holbeach Hospital where his daughter Millie (19) works as a finance assistant.
The challenge has been nicknamed JOGLE in a Day, an abbreviation of John O’Groats and Land’s End.
Kev, who works for Welland and Deepings Internal Drainage Board, said: “I did it once before 16 years ago as part of a holiday and without the challenge of doing it in a day.
“So I was out on my motorbike one day and thought: ‘This is the year to do it again’.
“My wife reckons I’m bonkers but my daughter thinks it’s a great way to raise money for the two charities.”
Kev listed his main priorities during the motorbike ride as “stopping for petrol, staying awake and to keep going”.
He said: “I’ll be riding for 15-16 hours, although there’ll be less traffic on the roads.
“ This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, having previously made the journey when camping along the way.
“Through my own experiences I know the good work that both charities do and although I haven’t thought about how much I want to raise, I hope people will donate as much as possible.”
