Old folks in Saracen’s Head and Holbeach Bank have enjoyed a free Christmas party for the past 35 years or so thanks to a group of kind-hearted individuals.
The Over 60s Committee raises money for the lunch with a music night and a bingo, usually held in October.
Committee chair June Taylor has been involved with the fundraisers for the past 30 plus years and has been chair for much of that time.
In their latest fundraiser, June and fellow committee members Lorraine Clark, Gill Ward, Lesley Barnes, Garry Smith and Malcolm Kent held a music night and raffle for about 65 people at Saracen’s Head Village Hall, raising £310 for the Christmas meal.
June said: “It was very successful. We had Mikki Wright from Norfolk on the keyboards and singing and he got everyone singing with him. He plays a variety of different songs, such as country, pop, ’60s and ’70s music, and is really very good.”
The committee provided a buffet for the night.
June said in November last year 75 people sat down to a three-course Christmas meal made by Roffe Caterers.
