Santa Claus and his sleigh will be visiting Holbeach

Santa Claus will be coming to Holbeach thanks to a group of volunteers.

Martin Forward and John Budworth, who own The Crown Hotel, will be bringing their specially commissioned Santa Sleigh to streets and stop-off points in the town to add a little festive cheer this December.

The Holbeach Santa Swarm has been organised in memory of Martin’s dad David, who loved Christmas. It will be kicking off on December 6.

Mr Budworth said it was important to do something for the town while also raising money for three good causes along the way.

He said: “We decided to do this as 2020 has been such a rubbish year with the second lockdown.

“We thought we could add to the Christmas lights with a Santa Sleigh and a sleigh ride around the streets. The charities are grateful as they have not been able to do their usual fundraising efforts. We also thought that it would benefit the children as it looks as though the traditional grottos and parades will not be going ahead.”

The event will be raising money for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, Holbeach Hospital and Royal British Legion.

Mr Forward and Mr Budworth have commissioned the trailer and sleigh from a manufacturer in County Durham especially for this event.

Santa will be starting off his visits with a stop outside The Crown Hotel on Saturday, December 6 between 4 and 5.30pm. Youngsters will be able to speak to Father Christmas in a socially distanced way and his helpers will be handing out sweet cones.

The Sleigh will also be going to the town’s Tesco supermarket on Saturdays, December 12 and 19 between 11am and 1pm.

It will also be stopping at All Saints Church on Saturday, December 13, between 4pm and 5.30pm.

The team will also be taking the sleigh out onto the streets of Holbeach to add some festive fun on December 19 from 5pm.

The route includes: West End, Spalding Road, Langwith Drive, Langwith Gardens, Western Avenue, Hallgate, Station Road and Barrington Gate.

It will also take in Fleet Street, Foxes Lowe Road, Battlefields Lane, George V Avenue, Boston Road South, Chestnut Avenue, Cecil Pywell Avenue, East Elloe Avenue and Northons Lane.

Last week Spalding Lions announced it hopes to take its sleigh to Quadring, Cowbit, Donington, Gosberton, Surfleet, Pinchbeck, Weston, Moulton and West Pinchbeck.
