FAMILY members were not surprised that Rose Berry managed to reach her 100th birthday on Friday.
“She is a very determined person and if she sets out to do something she will do it,” said her daughter Rosaline Fry. “She was a forewoman at Sainsbury’s at the main factory in London with about 70 women under her. Everybody loved her because she was so fair.”
Rose is in residential care at Nutten Stoven Nursing Home in Holbeach, but lived in Hall Gate in the town for 11 years, supported by Rosaline who spent each weekend with her, until a fall forced the move.
Rose’s birthday was celebrated – on Remembrance Day – at a family party with entertainment provided by songstress Maggie May and attended by Rosaline, her daughter Jackey Highsted, Jackey’s son Matthew, Rosaline’s brother-in-law Roy Fry, and Rosaline’s cousin Bill Berry who travelled from France with his wife Prim and son Timmy.
