OFFICIALS at St Margaret’s Church in Quadring hope to replace lead stolen from its roof with a look alike material, terne coated steel, in a bid to stop repeat raids.

Parish assistant Debbie Reynolds said: “It’s very difficult to remove and it hasn’t got the same sort of value as lead.”

The church is awaiting approval from South Holland District Council and English Heritage, but Mrs Reynolds says English Heritage has a big workload with something like 8,000 lead thefts from churches nationwide.
