UPDATE FRIDAY 3.18PM: Shop staff in shock and village on lockdown after armed robbery in Gedney Hill
Gedney Hill is in shock after an armed robbery at its main store resulted in police effectively cordoning off the village.
Staff at McColl's store in Hillgate were confronted by a man with a shotgun at about 9pm yesterday (Thursday).
People living near the store were unaware of the crime until police cars arrived in Hillgate, closing off exits out of the village in an attempt to trap the robber.
One woman in the village, who asked not to be named said: "I didn't hear anything because I was watching the TV.
"Then I went to look outside and the police were there with blue lights flashing, blocking the road off.
"All the staff were in shock as they stood outside the shop, but they didn't catch the person who went into the shop with a gun."
Another villager said: I was in during the night but didn't see or hear anything until the police arrived and cordoned off the road, not allowing us out of the house."
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman confirmed that the robber made off with cash in a small blue vehicle, possibly a Peugeot 306, which is thought to have later crashed into a lamppost near the junction of Highstock Lane and Lutton Gate Road, Gedney Hill, shortly after the robbery.
The man is described as white, around 5’8” tall and at the time he was wearing a dark-coloured top, with grey jogging bottoms.
Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 452 of December 6.
