A17 open again after accident

UPDATE: The road is now open again and traffic is flowing freely.

PREVIOUSLY: The A17 is currently closed in two directions after an accident involving a lorry this evening. The road is closed both ways from the A1121 to B1395 Side Bar Lane as a vehicle recovery is being planned after the incident at East Heckington at around 4.15pm.

Traffic is queued back to the Swineshead roundabout and there are severe delays of around 13 minutes and delays are increasing on the A17 eastbound, with an average speed of 10mph.

Police say the road is likely to remain closed both ways for some time and are advising motorists to use alternative routes and avoid the area.
