Art lovers are urged to set dates in their diaries – South Holland’s premier exhibition is opening its doors very soon.

The 16th South Holland Open Arts exhibition takes place in the function hall at the South Holland Centre in Market Place, Spalding, from March 3 – 10.

The popular annual event aims to showcase the best work by professional and amateur artists from the region.

Coun Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for arts development, said: “The quality of artwork is always extremely high and I’m certain this year’s event will be no different.

“I’m looking forward to visiting the exhibition and admiring what I’m sure will be an impressive variety of work.”

Over the past few months artists have been busy creating pieces for the exhibition, with the final entries chosen by an independent panel of judges. All sorts of art will be on display including paintings, drawings, photography and sculptures.

There will be three prizes up for grabs, these are:

The Public Vote Trophy: Presented to the artist whose artwork receives the most votes from visitors to the exhibition.

Best Newcomer: Sponsored by Riverbank Studios, £100 will be awarded to an artist entering the contest for the first time, chosen by the judges.

Photography Prize: Sponsored by Shutter Hub. A year’s free membership of Shutter Hub and an artist feature in their blog will be presented to the best photography entry chosen by the judges.

Visitors are also invited to see artists at work in Spalding Market Place during a special event organised by Spalding’s town centre manager to coincide with Open Arts. It takes place on Friday, March 4, between 11am and 3pm.
