Road repairs are to be carried out on a stretch of road that has seen two accidents – one fatal – in recent weeks.

Contractors Morgan Sindall will be carrying out repairs to the road surface of the A16 between Spalding and the roundabout at Crowland. They’ll be rectifying defects that have been identified during the contractual maintenance period.

The work will be carried out overnight next Monday to Thursday, June 8 to 11 to minimise disruption to road users.

Works will take place between 7pm to 7am each night, apart from Tuesday when the start will be delayed until 11pm at the request of Peterborough City Council.

The work should be completed over three nights, but a fourth night may be required if there are delays due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen problems on site.

The road will be closed to traffic so that the works can be carried out safely and speedily. The diversion route for each night will be A1175, A15 and A47 and vice versa. Advance warning and diversion route signs will be clearly placed.

The road will be open as normal during the day (7am to 7pm). Traffic using the B1040 (Nene Terrace Road), B1166 (Hulls Drove) and B1357 (Moulton Chapel Road) will only be permitted to cross the A16.

Mill Drove North will be closed at its junction with the A16. The weight restriction on Barrier Bank will still apply so HGVs should not attempt to use this as an alternative route.

A spokesman said: “We apologise for the inconvenience these essential repair works will cause and thank you for your co-operation.”
