Pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by fire engine on 999 call-out

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a fire engine which was on its way to an emergency.

The pedestrian was struck by the appliance in Towcester Road, Northampton, on Wednesday evening and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Northamptonshire Police has urged any witnesses of the incident to come forward.

The force said: "Police were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a fire engine in Towcester Road, Northampton this evening.

"The appliance was responding to an emergency call at 7.20pm when the collision with a pedestrian took place near to Rothersthrope Road.

"The pedestrian was seriously injured in the collision and has been taken to hospital for treatment."

The roads remained closed on Wednesday evening and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information regarding it can call police on 101.
