Spalding's school says social bubble system is working after positive coronavirus case

A head teacher has reassured parents that the class bubble structure has worked after a positive coronavirus case was confirmed.

Spalding's St John the Baptist School has sent one class of youngsters home and some staff members after the case was confirmed on Friday.

Head teacher Paul Reid said: "We have had one positive case confirmed on Friday in the school and because of the class bubble structure that has limited the amount of contact that person has had.

"We are more than fairly confident that other children in the school have not had contact with that person at all. They won't have been subjected to subjected to virus transmission from them."

Mr Reid said the school has a vigorous cleaning regime and has spoken to Public Health England (PHE).

He said: "We are adhering to the Government guidelines strictly and that means coming to school is as safe as it can be.

"One thing PHE did emphasise when I spoke to them that transmission is within the family units hence the changes to the restrictions."
